Standard Turn

A Standard Turn (about ten minutes) is used in dungeons, cities, buildings, and so forth.

Procedure

  1. Each PC describes their actions for one turn.
  2. The Referee describes the results.
  3. If in an Adventure Location, roll the Adventure Location Encounter Die.
  4. If an encounter with a possibly hostile creature or person occurs, follow the encounter procedure.

Standard Encounter Die

  1. Nothing.
  2. Nothing.
  3. Torch/Candle depleted. Lantern 1/3rd depleted.
  4. Nothing (or progression of local events, if relevant.)
  5. Omen.
  6. Encounter.

Ignore results that do not make sense, such as two torches being depleted within 3 turns of each other.

When the party is noisy, roll an additional time but only apply the second roll result if it is an encounter result.

Omens

Each encounter has an Omen.

If the PCs are moving slowly and cautiously, they will observe the Omen just before an Encounter begins. They might have time to douse their lights, hide, observe, or plan an ambush.

As they learn to recognize Omens, they will be able to plan and manipulate encounters. Not all encounters are hostile; the usual Reaction rolls still apply.
