Power to heat
Power to heat can be used in ETMoses to convert excess electricity into heat that is stored in a buffer for later use (see buffers for more details). Power to heat can be controlled by using the strategy Conversion of local PV excess using P2H
(see strategies for more information). The remainder of this section is used to describe the research behind the default parameters of P2H in ETMoses.
P2H is implemented in ETMoses as a small electric boiler (100 liter) before an existing condensing combi boiler. The water in the electric boiler can be heated with the excess electricity as controlled by the strategy, effectively preheating the water that goes into the buffer. Any remaining heat demand is fulfilled by other technologies connected to this buffer.
We used this electric boiler as a representative; this boiler has a electrical capacity of 2 kW at a cost of EUR 210.- In addition to the electric boiler, you also need some control electronics to drive it. We estimate the costs of these electronics at around EUR 50,-. All other specifications can be found in the [node source analysis] (https://github.com/quintel/etdataset-public/blob/master/nodes_source_analyses/households/households_flexibility_p2h_electricity.converter.xlsx).
