As the urgency of energy transition is becoming widely recognized, the energy debate is shifting from the global/national scope to a local one. Instead of "Why do we need to change?" we are asking ourselves questions like "How will this transition impact my local situation?" and "What are the best solutions for my house, street, neighbourhood?".
ETMoses allows the various stakeholders to gain insights into the effects of the (local) energy transition. The developments towards a more sustainable future requires investment throughout the whole energy chain, both on the side of the energy consumer and the network operator. By giving insight into the total social business case of the different stakeholders and the limitations of local infrastructure, better informed choices can be made for efficient local energy systems. ETMoses allows the user to explore the impact of changing technologies, innovative strategies and new market models. ETMoses can be used by decision makers, governments, consultancy firms, energy corporations and individual consumers.
ETMoses is integrated with the Energy Transition Model and derives its data from the Energy Transition Model dataset and real-life local energy solutions from our partners.
Creating and exploring a local energy solution can be a complex process. This Wiki is intended to describe the different steps in that process, starting with a Quick start guide. Where necessary the different steps in the process have a dedicated, more detailed page, which can be accessed from the sidebar menu. The ETMoses menu section provides a good starting point for this.
The reliability of the results from ETMoses highly depends on the quality of the input data. Quintel and its partners have spent significant effort in researching this input data, which are described in more detail in the modelling approach and technologies sections. ETMoses is, however, highly customisable and users can enter their own parameters for technologies and networks, use their own profiles and create custom market models to build a local energy solution that reflects their ideas.
Technologies, networks, strategies and market models will all affect the business case of the stakeholders in a local energy solution. These business cases can be compared for different local energy solutions, making it possible to find a local energy solution that works best for all stakeholders. In addition, ETMoses calculates loads on and flows through the different networks in the local energy solution. The various results that can be derived from ETMoses are described in the results section.
ETMoses is constantly evolving, either by new features being added or existing ones being improved. You can keep track of the current developments by looking at the list of open GitHub issues. This Wiki will be updated to reflect these changes and can therefore be considered as a living document.
