Power to gas
Power to gas can be used to convert (excess) electricity to hydrogen. The parameters for a typical power to gas plant have been research within the context of the Energy Transition Model. The parameters and the research behind them can be found in this node source analysis. Currently, the conversion efficiency is assumed to be at a (unrealistically high) 100%. This will be improved in the context of this ticket.
Power to gas in ETMoses can be controlled by using the strategy Conversion of local PV excess using P2G
; this strategy feeds any locally produced electricity from solar PV that is not consumed directly into the power to gas plant (more details in the strategies section). The resulting hydrogen is fed into the lowest pressure level of the gas network in ETMoses, see here for more details. In reality hydrogen can only be directly fed back into the grid up to a certain percentage. Extra upgrading or mixing with natural gas is needed, as the network can only accommodate gas within certain limits / composition.
