As the urgency of energy transition is becoming widely recognized, the energy debate is shifting from the global/national scope to a local one. Instead of "Why do we need to change?" we are asking ourselves questions like "How will this transition impact my local situation?" and "What are the best solutions for my house, street, neighbourhood?".
It is difficult to predict what these local situations will look like, but they will most likely bring major changes to technologies and infrastructure as well as to the business cases for the stakeholders involved. ETMoses has been developed to provide insight in such local energy solutions (LES) and explore the impact of changing technologies, innovative strategies and new market models. ETMoses determines the business case for each of the stakeholders involved and makes it possible to compare these business cases for different local energy solutions. ETMoses is integrated with the Energy Transition Model and derives its data from the Energy Transition Model dataset and real-life local energy solutions from our partners.
Creating and exploring a local energy solution can be an involved process. This wiki is intended to describe the different steps in that process, starting with a Quick start guide. Where necessary the different steps in the process have a dedicated, more detailed page, which can be accessed from the sidebar menu. The reliability of the results from ETMoses highly depends on the quality of the input data. Quintel and its partners have spent significant effort in researching this input data, the sources of which are described in this wiki as well. ETMoses is, however, highly customizable and users can enter their own parameters for technologies and networks, use their own profiles and create custom market models to build a local energy solution that fits their needs.
Technologies, networks, strategies and market models will all affect the business case of the stakeholders in a local energy solution. These business cases can be compared for different local energy solutions, making it possible to find a local energy solution that works best for all stakeholders. Many, more detailed results can be derived from ETMoses as well; these are described in the results section.
ETMoses is constantly evolving, either by new features being added or existing ones being improved. This wiki will be updated accordingly and can therefore be considered as a living document.
ETMoses is free, open source and open data. In case you have questions or comments or would like to attend a workshop, you can contact us through the Quintel website.
