General information related to safe lab work

  • Things to avoid
    • running in the lab
    • leaving waste or reagents on the bench unlabeled
    • storing glass bottles precariously
    • eating and drinking in the lab (OK to eat/drink in the dry lab)
    • throwing away food related items in the wet lab garbage

Safety trainings

C-14 certification of fitness training

C-14 training is required by FDNY for everyone who does benchwork in NYC. If you plan to work in the wet lab, do this training ASAP - it can take months to go through the process. If you are C-14 certified, then you can work in the lab alone. But if you are not C-14 certified, then at least one C-14 certified person must be in the lab space when you are there.
