What is GumTree?

GumTree is an open source software for helping scientists to perform complex experiments on neutron scattering instruments. It is built upon the Java platform, and with rich set of third party Java libraries from the Spring and Eclipse community.

GumTree Products

The GumTree project delivers a family of software products to the instrument users.

GumTree Workbench

GumTree workbench is a multi-platform rich desktop client for performing neutron scattering experiments.

GumTree Server

GumTree server is a bridging middleware that provides a central gateway to various network services available to the instrument users.

GumTree Platform

GumTree platform is an application framework for developers to build various type of applications using the GumTree technology.

Main Features

GumTree provides the following features:
  • Application framework - create rich client or server applications
  • Instrument control - user friendly front-end on existing control system server
  • Data processing - process data from different formats, apply algorithms on data, visualise and interact with data graphically.
  • System integration - connect and exchange data to other services from the network.
  • Experiment automation - maximising the use of instrument by automating experiment sequence.

Project Information

This project is officially funded by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) for its use on the neutron instruments constructed by the Bragg Institute. GumTree has come available to the open source since 2004 under the EPL license. We strongly encourage software collaboration and bring the best Java based solution to the scientific community.
