Toast notification

Display a Windows toast notification when you unlock an achievement (enabled by default).

There might be a slight delay between the event and the display of the notification when running PowerShell and loading a remote image can take a few seconds in some cases.

Requirements

  • Toast notification are only available for Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.
Windows 8/8.1 have very basic notification compared to Windows 10, some options will be ignored.
Windows 7 can use Growl for Windows to get toast like notification (more info) otherwise you will only have the balloon tooltip fallback.

  • Game must be set to "Window borderless" for the notification to be able to be rendered on top of it.

  • Your system is correctly configured (see Windows settings below).

Windows settings

⚠️ Some settings can interfere with the display of a toast notification.
You can test notification in Achievement Watcher > Settings > Debug to make sure your system is correctly configured.

Windows 8/8.1

  • Quiet hours (AW setup disable it via the registry so you shouldn't be bothered by it)

Windows 10

  • System > Focus assistant

Use either disable (easiest) or priority (some tweaks may be required).

By default AW is using Xbox UWP appID(s) for notification because they are already in the priority app list.
If you are using another one (see option) then you need to add it to the priority list.

Automatic rules especially 'Game' and 'Fullscreen' should be either disabled or set to 'priority only'.

  • System > Notification and action

Make sure notification and their features (banner, sound, etc) are enabled globally and for the appID used by Achievement Watcher.

  • Ease of Access > Display

💡 Tip: To configure how long a notification is displayed use the setting Show notification for ...
By default this is set to 5sec but I recommend 7sec.
