Super nodes are users, that have ports, open to the internet. They forward their listen ports to firewalled Skype users, to enable them communicating. Any user can become a super node (and can not prevent it then).

Default Super Nodes (DSNs)

  • default nodes, maintained by Skype (Microsoft?)
  • the login servers are listening on UDP port 33033 ?
  • dsn1.d.skype.net ...
  • dsn12.d.skype.net ! so there's more than seven of them now
  • furthermore it seems - although originally a peer-to-peer like distributed structure was used - nowadays Microsoft is holding all super nodes
