A general History of OCP within Bank of the Commons

  • A first proposal to use OCP for Bank of the commons is mentioned for the first time in General BotC telegram group on 4, February 2017.

  • An update of Bank of the Commons development plan was provided for the assembly of 21, February 2017, whose pad is here and, in the point 2.1, it was discussed to give a central focus to OCP.

  • Between 15 and 18 of March 2017 an OCP hackathon took place in Athens Greece with two members of OCP, one member of dyne and Enric, to collaborate in future integration paths.

  • On April 4, 2017, during the second BotC assembly, here the pad it was decided a 500 eur contribution for the previous March hackathon and it was proposed to begin to budget the involvement of two devs for OCP, starting from May 2017.

  • In the next assembly, on 27 of April 2017, pad here the following OCP technical plan is presented and an initial budget of 2000 eur is allocated.

1st phase May-August 2017

  • Two developers Xavi and Bumbum working full time for OCP

  • BotC membership opens with OCP form in June 2017

  • During this time-frame is also proposed and supported in June Assembly 27-06-17 to base a further project, Coopshares in OCP.

  • In 2017 FairCoop Summercamp (end of July and August) OCP plays a central role, with the development of open collaborative work idea (OCW).

Also, during this time, OCP had its teamwork extended, not only of two people paid by BotC but a further team which includes Ivan, Lynn, Bob, and few others. An example of their assemblies here

2nd phase, September-December 2017

  • on the assembly of 26 September 2017 it was communicated that Xavi was leaving OCP team for some internal disappointments with other activists and devs (not involved in OCP team).

  • It was asked to search for other devs to take his role but none was found or brought a proposal for the assembly. This brings to the beginning of the role of bumbum as only paid dev in OCP.

  • On 31-10-2017 for the first time, critical voices appeared in the assembly on the efficiency of OCP budget, here is the pad and it's agreed to ask bumbum a report for the following assembly.

  • The next Assembly, on 28-11-2017 leads to an agreement for improving OCP process, as explained here, in pad. A report from bumbum came with some FW telegram messages. It's presented by Ivan the proposal of an Open Apps Ecosystem for an Economic Network, here that BotC could support as a user of this same infrastructure.

  • Teamwork continued related to OCP and on 12-12-2017 it took place a first autonomous assembly to build their own brand new process, named Open Cooperative Ecosystem (OCE), here the pad

This process, later on, developed the following documentation about OCE.

3rd phase from January to August 2018

  • On January 30, 2018, is decided that:

“It has been a process in OCP (now OCE - open collaborative ecosystem), to get more autonomy and take care of the common tasks of the group, by this process Bank of the Commons coordinates now with OCE team, and the proposal to pay is reduced from 1000 (bumbum) to 700 (500 bumbum - 200 to support the general framework development)“. To see the full notes in line 138 of the pad of the Assembly

  • This begins this third phase where responsibility and reports are taken collectively by OCE, and in February 27-02-18 Assembly, Ivan shares a document of new features in works in OCP and a report from bumbum.

  • During 24-04-18 Assembly Ivan presented a pad with some history of OCP in BotC

  • At the beginning of June 2018, a hackathon focused on Coopshares project took place in Milan, with some from OCE team, especially Ivan and bumbum meet together.

  • In July 2018 bumbum published a pdf about OCP plans.

  • On the last period of this phase, there are some ideological and some method differences between bumbum and the rest of the team, that leads to the separation that will happen in September.

4th phase from September 2018 until now

  • On September 4 2018, OCE decided to dissolve the group in an assembly, see the notes and this summary. This fact disconnected the group directly from the work that bumbum has been doing.

  • A three months report from bumbum July-August-September was presented in the Assembly of 25-09-18, here the pad.

  • On October, 30, the Assembly has discussed the continuity of OCP and is asked a roadmap to present in next assembly.

(This roadmap is not presented in November 2018, assembly)

  • The 2nd of January 2019 is reported: “in the OCP development group, there are updates about the integration of freedomcoop membership in the same procedure than BotC and others memberships, which is the pending steps, to avoid problems between common members membership. It seems that this can be ready soon”

  • On March 25 2019, there is an announcement of collaboration between Bumbum and Rama related to OCP, here

  • On the Assembly of 26 of march it's presented the report of the 0.9.9 OCP release.

  • On May 28, 2019, bumbum appears in Assembly to comment on how he feels related to the low budget and pressure on OCP.

  • On July 30, 2019, during the assembly, Moki comments: “In my talk today with @bumfresh we agreed to process with testing this week, so this feature will be working soon too. Together with this, it will come that when you crate account at wallet.bankofthecommons.coop you are creating the members.bankofthecommons.coop account and you can buy shares directly from your wallet. No need to create a wallet and then members.botc.coop account”

  • On October 29 2019 Assembly, bumbum add to the pad “BotC Wallet/OCP account automatisation is ready" which is related to the OCP side of the integration between wallet and OCP, that was agreed with Moki in previous months".
