Maturity Spectrum Rationale

Semantic Consensus: Medium

There is one main semantic issue with the Device Object, in that it overlaps in terms of functionality and context with the System Object, as both describe aspects of hardware devices. Ideally we should have one object solely for describing hardware devices and one object for describing aspects of the software that may be running on them.

Semantic Completeness: Low

There are many additional fields that would be possible to add to the Device Object. This is discussed in some detail here.

Existing Use: Low

There is no documented use of the Device Object.
