CSS is about control system applications.
Members of the collaboration agree on several goals:
- Portable Java code
- Modern user interface
- Need for generic applications like a operator interface panel editor and strip chart
- Desire to have an integrated toolset where the user can start a strip chart on any process variable displayed in the operator interface directly from that operator interface
On the other hand, there are also differences:
- Process variable names stored in LDAP or Oracle
- Authentication via Kerberos or LDAP
- Need for some very site-specific applications
In CSS, all functionality is implemented as Eclipse Plug-ins. System integrators can select generic as well as site-specific Plug-ins and package the result as a product that appears homogeneous to the end user.
