I don't really understand the code. I just got it to work. I got it from issue 9. I had to add a utf8.sub function that I found to Utils.lua. If you'd like it put somewhere else besides Utils.lua I can change it.
Without this fix UITextEdit crashes if you press the right arrow key to the end of the string. This fixes the crash and enables editing uff8 text.
