Questions and insights related to modeling the Ashtadhyayi. The most useful bits are summarized below.
Mishra 2008: Simulating the Pāṇinian System of Sanskrit Grammar
Goyal et al. 2007: Computer Simulation of Aṣṭādhyāyī: Some Insights
Scharf 2004: Modeling Pāṇinian grammar
Discusses issues involved with modeling Pāṇinian grammar:
- What is being modeled? The Ashtadhyayi has a host of associated commentaries and proposals, not all of which can be accepted. Which of these, if any, should be incorporated into the grammar?
- How should ambiguous rules be interpreted? Some rules have no clear interpretation, and some commentaries conflict.
- Should all behavior be modeled explicitly? For example, we could generate nominal endings beforehand.
