postgres-schema-ts

Convert Postgres schemas into TypeScript interfaces

MySQL implementation: http://github.com/nettofarah/mysql-schema-ts

Usage

# to infer an entire schema
$ npx postgres-schema-ts postgresql://postgres@localhost:5433/db?currentSchema=public

# to infer a specific table
$ npx postgres-schema-ts postgresql://postgres@localhost:5433/db?currentSchema=public table_name

tip: You can pipe the output of postgres-schema-ts into a file with npx postgres-schema-ts <args> > schema.ts

Demo

For the following SQL schema:

CREATE TABLE account (
  username VARCHAR (50) UNIQUE NOT NULL,
  password VARCHAR (50) NOT NULL,
  email VARCHAR (355) UNIQUE NOT NULL,
  created_on TIMESTAMP NOT NULL,
  last_login TIMESTAMP
)

run:

$ npx postgres-schema-ts postgresql://postgres@localhost:5433/db?currentSchema=public
export interface account {
  username: string
  password: string
  email: string
  created_on: Date
  last_login: Date | null
}

Using postgres-schema-ts programatically

import { inferSchema, inferTable } from 'postgres-schema-ts'

await inferSchema(connectionString)
await inferTable(connectionString, tableName)

Design

postgres-schema-ts is inpired by the awesome schemats library. But takes a simpler, more blunt, and configuration free approach:

  • Simpler defaults
  • Postgres support only
  • Inline enums
  • No support for namespaces
