Import a GEDCOM file

You created an amazing family tree on a genealogy desktop program (or website) and you want to import it in Family Gem.
You can do that through a GEDCOM file.

To import a GEDCOM file into Family Gem follow this steps:

  1. From your desktop or web application export the GEDCOM file, for example myAncestry.ged.
  2. Upload myAncestry.ged in any folder of your Android device, for example Documents.
Alternatively upload it on a cloud service (Google Drive, Dropbox…).
  3. In Family Gem go to TreesImport a GEDCOM file.
  4. On the Android file picker that opens find myAncestry.ged.
  5. A tree titled myAncestry will appear in the list.

Open failed: EACCES (Permission denied)

In some circumstances the GEDCOM file is not readable.
A possible solution is to upload it to the app storage, that is:
/Android/data/app.familygem/files/myAncestry.ged

Family Gem has full access to this path, so it will be able to import the GEDCOM file.
