These instructions cover running this project locally on both Windows and macOS so that you can preview changes:

Clone* this repository:
git clone https://github.com/mcneel/developer.rhino3d.com.git

Download, install, and launch Visual Studio Code and open the root folder of the repository.

(macOS only) In Visual Studio Code, press
Command
+Shift
+P
, followed byenter
to bring up the Command Palette, then typeTasks
and selectTasks: Run Task
, followed byhugo SetMaxFilesLimits (run once only)
and pressenter
. Restart your computer. (This step only has to be run once if you have never used hugo before on this computer.) -
In Visual Studio Code's left-hand sidebar, navigate to the (file) Explorer section, open the content/en/guides/general/how-this-site-works/index.md file.

In Visual Studio Code's left-hand sidebar, navigate to Run and Debug > Hugo: Serve ...
Press the green triangle to start the process. It will take a few seconds and then your web browser should open to the How This Site Works guide, ready for editing. Changes made to the index.md file in Visual Studio Code should appear in your browser immediately. Note that your web browser might show an error, in which case you'll need to refresh the page once VS Code has finished setting up the server on port 1313.
