Milestone
This repository has historically been licensed under the permissive ISC license, though in recent years, the closed-source MapboxNavigationNative dependency has gradually taken over core functionality (from #1618 #1811 onward). Starting with the MapboxNavigation v2.0.0 release, this repository is available under the Mapbox Terms of Service instead of ISC, paralleling the license change in MapboxMaps v10.0.0 versus earlier versions of the Mapbox Maps SDK. Specifically, this change affects the release-v2.0 branch, which will be merged to the main branch in #3116, as well as ongoing prereleases of v2.0.0. Going forward, any PR you contribute to this repository is also subject to a new contributor license agreement to ensure that Mapbox can include your contribution in the SDK.
As you can see in #3116, we are continuing to distribute the SDK as publicly available source code that you can build yourself. Older releases and release branches (such as release-v1.4) remain under the ISC license, and there are no plans to change the ISC license on MapboxDirections, MapboxSpeech, or Turf. We are also committed to keeping the mapbox-navigation-ios-examples and navigation-ui-resources repositories in the public domain so you can adapt those starter kits in your projects without any restrictions.
We’re grateful for the participation of many developers and translators in this project over the years and would like to continue collaborating with you on a high-quality SDK. If you have any questions or feedback about this change, please contact Mapbox Support. I and the other engineers on the @mapbox/navigation-ios team are always happy to field specific technical feedback in this repository’s issue tracker, but Mapbox Support is better equipped to respond to anything broader. Thank you.
