Currently reads:

How do I withdraw funds from Gittip?
There are three ways to withdraw funds from Gittip:
[...]
2. Email us to set up a weekly PayPal payout (2% fee, capped at $20).

Context of the copy: #1658

@whit537 can you comment on what exactly you meant with the copy? Is it to say PayPal payout can't be higher than $1000, and if so, can we just say this?

This has twice come to light as causing confusion, as people think that PayPal payouts are capped at $20, rather than the fees:

Would also be nice to deeplink into FAQ items, so reticketed in #2019

The fee is capped at $20. So, by example:

  • $500 payout results in $10 fee.
  • $1,000 payout results in $20 fee.
  • $1,500 payout results in $20 fee.
  • $2,000 payout results in $20 fee.

There's a twist here, in that the fee structure is different for people inside the U.S. For U.S. accounts the fee is capped at $1. Our MassPay script doesn't take this into account yet (haven't needed to, though it's ticketed as #1675).

Email us to set up a weekly PayPal payout (2% fee, capped at $20).

A couple options:

  • Email us to set up a weekly PayPal payout (2% fee).
  • Email us to set up a weekly PayPal payout (2% fee; fee capped at $20).

Ok, good to know. For now, how about this for now? (We can worry about the more confusing fee structure when it's in effect, right?)

(unlimited payout, 2% fee capped at $20)

Sigh... the facepalm is strong with that one. Please fix this asap ;)

How about simply linking to a separate page that clearly describes, in detail, the fees involved in every transaction? There's no need to stuff it all into one FAQ page.

Good call @karenetheridge. However, at the moment, it really is as simple as a one-liner :)
