Installation

Note: this is a fork of mathiasbyrnes/dotfiles. Check out the original for the latest and greatest.

Warning: If you want to give these dotfiles a try, you should first fork this repository, review the code, and remove things you don’t want or need. Don’t blindly use my settings unless you know what that entails. Use at your own risk!

  1. Clone this repo: git clone https://github.com/DSchau/dotfiles.git
  2. Run the init script: ./init/init.sh
    • This will install some things like ZSH, homebrew, configure folders, etc.
  3. Run the bootstrap script: ./bootstrap.sh
    • This will copy over config files like .bashrc, .bash_profile, etc.
  4. Run the macOS init script: ./.macos
  5. Run the brew setup script: ./brew.sh

To update, cd into this local dotfiles repository and then:

source bootstrap.sh

Alternatively, to update while avoiding the confirmation prompt:

set -- -f; source bootstrap.sh

Specify the $PATH

If ~/.path exists, it will be sourced along with the other files, before any feature testing (such as detecting which version of ls is being used) takes place.

Here’s an example ~/.path file that adds /usr/local/bin to the $PATH:

export PATH="/usr/local/bin:$PATH"

Feedback

Suggestions/improvements welcome!
