How to search the built in database for a new Met.No location

Kate Buckley edited this page Feb 25, 2022 · 1 revision

The new Met.no API relies on Latitude and Longitude to retrieve the weather data - which is not very "user friendly". As a result I have added a database of locations to try and make adding a location as easy as possible. This database contains every location in the world with a population of at least 500 people - so it won't find very small villages or remote locations - which is a necessary compromise in order to keep the database a sensible size...

To add a location using the Database Search engine:

Open up the Configuration page and click "+ metno" to enter the "Add a Met.No Location" page:

Click the Search button:

The widget will check your locale settings, and attempt to load the most suitable location database for you:

Find your location - the widget will filter the locations as you type in the Filter box.
When you have found your location, select it with the mouse, or double-click on it.

The widget will enter the information into the "Add a Met.No Location" page:

Edit the Place Identifier if you wish, then click OK.

And that's it...
