Level 4 Terrain User Testing
The Level 4 terrain design will be implemented by Team3 in Sprint4. The ultimate goal of the designing game was to create four levels of terrain to increase the playability of the game. In addition, each level requires different design elements to add visual impact. After discussion, the designers decided to come up with a separate set of proposals and then A/B test both. The feedback from the users will be used to complete the real needs of the users.
The purpose of the test was to ensure that users were satisfied with the level where every design feature and element was clear to them. The feedback from the users will be of great help to the designers, who will be able to implement the product in a way that is more relevant to the needs of the users and will greatly improve the visual appeal.
According to the user experience information we want to know, we took the AB Test method to test our two different terrains' styles.
What preparations have been made:
- Prepare terrain images for each previous game level
- Prepare two images of different terrain for AB testing
- Questions to ask users during the testing
- Invite 4 users to test(They all play games regularly)
- Choose A or B
- If none of them are chosen, please give the C
- What other advice can be given
To conduct our user testing we did the following:
- We first introduced the user to the background of the game and showed the terrain in the different levels before
- We then presented the two new terrain designs in different styles to the users and asked them to choose which one they liked best
- If the user indicates that they are not satisfied with both, ask them what they think a better option C should be
- Finally, ask them what other comments and what changes could be made to the terrain
- User 1: A. I think the first one is good, I feel that the yellow looks more difficult than the dark purple and my eyes feel a bit uncomfortable after looking at it for a long time.
- User 2: A. The colors are very consistent with the other levels and just go well together. Secondly, I really like the design of the shooting star, it fits the theme of the game. However, I don't like the color of the floor underneath, I suggest changing it to a similar color to the background, like the other levels.
- User 3: None of them. the color of B is too bright and doesn't match the previous levels. The color of A could be changed.
- User 4: A. The color of the theme matches the theme of the previous levels. The color of the rocks below could be kept or changed to the style of the planets.
Based on feedback from users, we have changed terrain A, which is the choice of most users. We have changed the colors of the surface and underground while keeping the sky color the same. The color has been standardized to use the same shade of bright purple to highlight the surface and underground without making them stand out too much.
