New Chungus

Sheemap edited this page Apr 27, 2018 · 1 revision

When the new chungus system is implemented, this document will replace the other chungus wiki page.

TL;DR: Chungus is changing. The best way to play is to try and hold chungus for the longest consecutive period of time possible. Will also probably be seasonal.

The Issues

After just a few days of chungus being live, weve seen some fun gameplay. However some issues have also seemed to arise or forseen.

  • In its current implementation it is seemingly very difficult to climb to the top of the chungus ladder. You must stay up to the early hours of the day in order to snatch the fat chungus and soar to the top. This is by nature of the game, and I have no intention of aboloshing this completely. However I would like to make it so that casual players who get a good healthy sleep still have a chance. A sub point of this is that new players who join months or so late will have an extremely difficult time climbing the ladder.

  • Currently the point counts are fairly small. However due to the nature of the game, these will grow and continue to explode into massive proportions. Eventually in order to score even a slightly impactful batch of points, you will need to wait hours and soon after days. This could be played fine and turn out to be ok, but I think a more engaging, less wait time game would be more fun. So we want to keep numbers low.

The Solutions

After much discussion with myself and other members of the server, two potential solutions have arisen. Feel free to send me feedback on either of these, or even propose your own system if you have one.

Solution 1 - Percentage decay

This system is the simplest. Everything is kept the same in the world of chungus, aside from a small percentage of decay that comes into play daily.

Everyone would lose x% of their points each day. This means those near the top would lose more than those near the bottom. Thus closing the gap a bit and aiding lower/newer players in having a chance. Since it will decrease more points the higher we get, it will also keep overall point counts down, and chungus calls up. It maintains the fluidness of the game while still addressing the problems.

Some potential issues with this are how it is just simply taking your hard earned chungus points and removing them. Your points dont go anywhere, sense of progress is diminished and it can be discouraging. If you leave for a month and then come back to a significantly fewer amount of points, thats not great. Now you have to build yourself up all over again.

Solution 2 - Seasonal Chungus

This system will implement a few significant changes in order to address these issues. The largest change would be the addition of monthly seasons. Every month all chungus points will be reset, and the best chungus will go down forever as the best chungus of that month. Potentially other rewards will follow.

The second mechanic this system adds is a bit more complicated. In order to select the best chungus of the month, we will track a seperate set of points, known as victory points (until we come up with a dumber name). At the end of the month, whoever has the most VPs is the best chungus. VPs are gained by holding the chungus position. It is similar to how normal points work, the longer you hold the chungus position in sequence, the more exponential VPs you will gain. However, it will become harder and harder to hold the chungus position. After a potential grace period of you holding the chungus poistion, decay will start to apply. You will begin to lose points daily and it will increase the longer you hold the position.

This solves each issue addressed and adds some interesting mechanics and potential strategies.

Conclusion

Again if you have any feedback or ideas of your own, feel free to message Seka with it. Im happy to hear your criticisms, concerns or praise. Anything is welcome.

Thank you for reading, have a great day.
