Actions
Actions are the bread and butter of the adventure. They give the adventure structure and order and also gives the PCs meaningful choices but ultimetly decide their fate.
During a PCs turn they might do as many or few actions as they want limited only by the action tokens on the action gauge. If the gauge runs dry they can take no more actions and their turn is over.
There are 3 different kindes of action tokens on the action gauge:
Movement
This action token can only be spent to move. The maximum distance allowed to move by spending a single movement token is NEAR. The gauge will always have at least one movement token. When spent, if it is the permanent movement token on the board it is slid down to the inactive area. If the movement token is an extra it is removed from the gauge.
Action
The most versatile of the action tokens. This token can be spent to do any type of action. ANY! There will always be at least on on the gauge. When spent, it is slid down to the inactive area of the gauge unless it is an extra. If thats the case then remove it from the gauge.
Anytime
This is the most powerful of actions. As the name suggests they can be used at any time. Yea thats right, even during an enemies turn. They allow the PCs to perform out of sync tricks that in dire situations might save the day. When you want to spend an anytime token make sure to annouce this by interupting the GM or PC before a roll has been made. Here is an example:
GM: "The goblin runs forward with a quick and agile pace with his spear in hand ready to strike Anara."
PC: "But I... quicky step in between and defend Anara by raising my shield ready to block the attack."
GM: "Good call! Roll for defending."
Defending PC rolls success.
GM: "You manage to get your shield up in a good position with a nice tight grip and your feet in a steadfast stance..."
Defending PC picks up 3 hold tokens and adds them to his play area.
GM continue with his attack roll and it is successful.
GM: "The goblin is in range and strikes against Anara."
**PC: "I spend 1 hold token and block the attack with my shield."
GM rolls for damage.
GM: "The blow is completely blocked by your shield to the goblins great frustration. He looks at you with pure hate in his eyes."
