Rafael Cenzano

I'm a rising senior CS major at RPI who enjoys coding as a hobby and plans to pursue it as a career. I have worked primarily with Python and Flask but through my 1+ year of internship experience, I have picked up Java, SQL, and related libraries as well as experience with cloud resources on AWS.

  • 🎓 RPI Computer Science, Working on a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
  • 💻 Student Mentor, Holding office hours and grading exams for Computer Science 1 teaching Python, loops, file handling, lists, dictionaries, sets, classes, recursion, and strings

Projects

  • 🔬 LabConnect, a Rensselaer Center for Open Source project that I've been leading since the Fall 2023 semester aimed at creating a website that connects undergraduate students to research positions on campus. This website is designed with Flask and React.
  • 📝 Alpha Phi Omega, Epsilon Zeta Chapter Website, a brand new website built with FastAPI, MongoDB, and NextUI. The website has information on our chapter but also manages our lost and found records, backtest records, and loaner tech availability.
  • 🔨 JYL Toolbox, a site developed with a Flask backend to help connect student leaders together and to give adult leaders a simple one-stop website to post content, like upcoming meetings and events.
  • RafaelCenzano.com, a simple HTML, CSS, JS site to display my work.

Organizations

  • 👤 Alpha Phi Omega, Active Brother. During my time in Alpha Phi Omega, I've completed 1100+ service hours and have led multiple small and large-scale events. As President, I worked with all chapter officers to lead their respective programs and host successful events for all of our members. As a National Student Advisor, I worked with students from every Region to advise the National President, Vice President, and Executive Director on the actions and direction of the national office.
  • 👤 Food Recovery Network, President, donating excess food from on-campus dining to local food shelters.

Awards and Honors

  • 👤 Distinguished Service Key, The Chapter Distinguished Service Key Award is a chapter’s highest level of distinction given to strong leaders and volunteers within the chapter.
  • 👤 Phalanx Honor Society, This honor society was started in 1912 to recognize those who have benefited Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute through their work as leaders.
  • 👤 Upsilon Pi Epsilon, UPE is the computer science honor society recognizing high-performing students in technology majors.

Past Experiences

  • Software Engineer Intern at MongoDB Learned Go and React to improve services for customers using the Atlas App Service. My primary project was creating a Go micro-service to handle backend X509 certificates for a more secure system utilizing gRPC.
  • 💻 Amazon SDE Intern, Returned to Amazon in Summer 2023 on the Alexa Music team. I updated multimodal Alexa devices to include background images while playing music and shipped the feature to production.
  • 💻 Amazon SDE Intern, I worked on the Alexa Prize Engineering team to build a metrics dashboard. I modified and created data pipelines to process data from multiple sources to present in an Amazon Managed Grafana dashboard.
  • 🔅 Photon Commerce, Software Engineer Intern for 8 months at Photon Commerce a fintech startup working to automate finances and reduce errors that cost billions a year.
  • ☁️ Hack the Cloud 2.0, Hack the Fog's online hackathon in response to the pandemic. (Co-Founder and Director). I'm also currently the Director of the Hack the Fog organization.
  • 💻 Lowell Dev Club, a Hack Club at my highschool. (Co-Founder and Co-President)
  • 👤 Japantown Youth Leaders, as a student leader I volunteer at events and create a service project every year resulting in over 100 volunteer hours every school year.
  • 🎒 Lowelldev.club, a Flask site developed to provide information on DevClub and uses Flask and Postgres to allow creation of workshops and short links and to display workshops and display markdown files for workshops.
