The default frequency on Qualcomm CPUs is the lowest frequency supported by the CPU. This hurts latency when waking from suspend, as each CPU coming online runs at its lowest frequency until the governor can take over later. To speed up waking from suspend, hijack the CPUHP_AP_ONLINE hook and use it to set the highest available frequency on each CPU as they come online. This is done behind the governor's back but it's fine because the governor isn't running at this point in time for a CPU that's coming online. This speeds up waking from suspend significantly. In commit 720c241 ("ANDROID: binder: change down_write to down_read") binder assumed the mmap read lock is sufficient to protect alloc->vma inside binder_update_page_range(). This used to be accurate until commit dd2283f ("mm: mmap: zap pages with read mmap_sem in munmap"), which now downgrades the mmap_lock after detaching the vma from the rbtree in munmap(). Then it proceeds to teardown and free the vma with only the read lock held. One might expect an increase of mmap lock contention. However, binder already serializes these calls via top level alloc->mutex. Also, there was no performance impact shown when running the binder benchmark tests. Note this patch is specific to stable branches 5.4 and 5.10. Since in newer kernel releases binder no longer caches a pointer to the vma. Instead, it has been refactored to use vma_lookup() which avoids the issue described here. The @ftrace_mod is allocated by kzalloc(), so both the members {prev,next} of @ftrace_mode->list are NULL, it's not a valid state to call list_del(). If kstrdup() for @ftrace_mod->{func|module} fails, it goes to @out_free tag and calls free_ftrace_mod() to destroy @ftrace_mod, then list_del() will write prev->next and next->prev, where null pointer dereference happens. commit 0954256e970ecf371b03a6c9af2cf91b9c4085ff upstream. We used to use the wrong type of integer in 'zfcp_fsf_req_send()' to cache the FSF request ID when sending a new FSF request. This is used in case the sending fails and we need to remove the request from our internal hash table again (so we don't keep an invalid reference and use it when we free the request again). In 'zfcp_fsf_req_send()' we used to cache the ID as 'int' (signed and 32 bit wide), but the rest of the zfcp code (and the firmware specification) handles the ID as 'unsigned long'/'u64' (unsigned and 64 bit wide [s390x ELF ABI]). For one this has the obvious problem that when the ID grows past 32 bit (this can happen reasonably fast) it is truncated to 32 bit when storing it in the cache variable and so doesn't match the original ID anymore. The second less obvious problem is that even when the original ID has not yet grown past 32 bit, as soon as the 32nd bit is set in the original ID (0x80000000 = 2'147'483'648) we will have a mismatch when we cast it back to 'unsigned long'. As the cached variable is of a signed type, the compiler will choose a sign-extending instruction to load the 32 bit variable into a 64 bit register (e.g.: 'lgf %r11,188(%r15)'). So once we pass the cached variable into 'zfcp_reqlist_find_rm()' to remove the request again all the leading zeros will be flipped to ones to extend the sign and won't match the original ID anymore (this has been observed in practice). If we can't successfully remove the request from the hash table again after 'zfcp_qdio_send()' fails (this happens regularly when zfcp cannot notify the adapter about new work because the adapter is already gone during e.g. a ChpID toggle) we will end up with a double free. We unconditionally free the request in the calling function when 'zfcp_fsf_req_send()' fails, but because the request is still in the hash table we end up with a stale memory reference, and once the zfcp adapter is either reset during recovery or shutdown we end up freeing the same memory twice. The resulting stack traces vary depending on the kernel and have no direct correlation to the place where the bug occurs. [ Upstream commit 65946690ed8d972fdb91a74ee75ac0f0f0d68321 ] The coreboot_table driver registers a coreboot bus while probing a "coreboot_table" device representing the coreboot table memory region. Probing this device (i.e., registering the bus) is a dependency for the module_init() functions of any driver for this bus (e.g., memconsole-coreboot.c / memconsole_driver_init()). With synchronous probe, this dependency works OK, as the link order in the Makefile ensures coreboot_table_driver_init() (and thus, coreboot_table_probe()) completes before a coreboot device driver tries to add itself to the bus. With asynchronous probe, however, coreboot_table_probe() may race with memconsole_driver_init(), and so we're liable to hit one of these two: 1. coreboot_driver_register() eventually hits "[...] the bus was not initialized.", and the memconsole driver fails to register; or 2. coreboot_driver_register() gets past Project-Awaken#1, but still races with bus_register() and hits some other undefined/crashing behavior (e.g., in driver_find() [1]) We can resolve this by registering the bus in our initcall, and only deferring "device" work (scanning the coreboot memory region and creating sub-devices) to probe(). If DAT metadata file is corrupted on disk, there is a case where req->pr_desc_bh is NULL and blocknr is 0 at nilfs_dat_commit_end() during a b-tree operation that cascadingly updates ancestor nodes of the b-tree, because nilfs_dat_commit_alloc() for a lower level block can initialize the blocknr on the same DAT entry between nilfs_dat_prepare_end() and nilfs_dat_commit_end(). If this happens, nilfs_dat_commit_end() calls nilfs_dat_commit_free() without valid buffer heads in req->pr_desc_bh and req->pr_bitmap_bh, and causes the NULL pointer dereference above in nilfs_palloc_commit_free_entry() function, which leads to a crash. Fix this by adding a NULL check on req->pr_desc_bh and req->pr_bitmap_bh before nilfs_palloc_commit_free_entry() in nilfs_dat_commit_free(). This also calls nilfs_error() in that case to notify that there is a fatal flaw in the filesystem metadata and prevent further operations. …KVM vectors Sami reports that linux panic()s when resuming from suspend to RAM. This is because when CPUs are brought back online, they re-enable any necessary mitigations. The Spectre-v2 and Spectre-BHB mitigations interact as both need to done by KVM when exiting a guest. Slots KVM can use as vectors are allocated, and templates for the mitigation are patched into the vector. The Spectre-v2 mitigation identifies the slot it can re-use by the CPU's 'fn'. It unconditionally writes the slot number and 'template_start' pointer. The Spectre-BHB mitigation identifies slots it can re-use by the CPU's template_start pointer, which was previously clobbered by the Spectre-v2 mitigation. When there is only one CPU that is vulnerable to both issues, this causes Spectre-v2 to try to allocate a new slot, which fails. Change both mitigations to check whether they are changing the slot this CPU uses before writing the percpu variables again. After that we see an oops about 10 seconds later. This is then used to allocate a new SKB in cdc_ncm_fill_tx_frame() where all the data is handled. For small values of dwNtbOutMaxSize the memory allocated during alloc_skb(dwNtbOutMaxSize, GFP_ATOMIC) will have the same size, due to how size is aligned at alloc time: size = SKB_DATA_ALIGN(size); size += SKB_DATA_ALIGN(sizeof(struct skb_shared_info)); Thus we hit the same bug that we tried to squash with commit 2be6d4d16a084 ("net: cdc_ncm: Allow for dwNtbOutMaxSize to be unset or zero") Low values of dwNtbOutMaxSize do not cause an issue presently because at alloc_skb() time more memory (512b) is allocated than required for the SKB headers alone (320b), leaving some space (512b - 320b = 192b) for CDC data (172b). However, if more elements (for example 3 x u64 = [24b]) were added to one of the SKB header structs, say 'struct skb_shared_info', increasing its original size (320b [320b aligned]) to something larger (344b [384b aligned]), then suddenly the CDC data (172b) no longer fits in the spare SKB data area (512b - 384b = 128b). [ Upstream commit 4faeee0cf8a5d88d63cdbc3bab124fb0e6aed08c ] Historically connect(AF_UNSPEC) has been abused by syzkaller and other fuzzers to trigger various bugs. A recent one triggers a divide-by-zero [1], and Paolo Abeni was able to diagnose the issue. tcp_recvmsg_locked() has tests about sk_state being not TCP_LISTEN and TCP REPAIR mode being not used. Then later if socket lock is released in sk_wait_data(), another thread can call connect(AF_UNSPEC), then make this socket a TCP listener. When recvmsg() is resumed, it can eventually call tcp_cleanup_rbuf() and attempt a divide by 0 in tcp_rcv_space_adjust() [1] This patch adds a new socket field, counting number of threads blocked in sk_wait_event() and inet_wait_for_connect(). If this counter is not zero, tcp_disconnect() returns an error. This patch adds code in blocking socket system calls, thus should not hurt performance of non blocking ones. The repro first creates an ipset and then tries to delete a large number of IPs from the ipset concurrently: IPSET_ATTR_IPADDR_IPV4 : 172.20.20.187 IPSET_ATTR_CIDR : 2 The first deleting thread hogs a CPU with nfnl_lock(NFNL_SUBSYS_IPSET) held, and other threads wait for it to be released. Previously, the same issue existed in set->variant->uadt() that could run so long under ip_set_lock(set). Commit 5e29dc36bd5e ("netfilter: ipset: Rework long task execution when adding/deleting entries") tried to fix it, but the issue still exists in the caller with another mutex. While adding/deleting many IPs, we should release the CPU periodically to prevent someone from abusing ipset to hang the system. Git bisect has identified the following commit as bad: f28e32d3906e drm/nouveau/kms: Don't change EDID when it hasn't actually changed Here is the chain of events that causes the oops. On entry to nouveau_connector_detect_lvds, edid is set to NULL. The call to nouveau_connector_detect sets nv_connector->edid to valid memory, with status set to connector_status_connected and the flow of execution branching to the out label. The subsequent call to nouveau_connector_set_edid erronously clears nv_connector->edid, via the local edid pointer which remains set to NULL. Fix this by setting edid to the value of the just acquired nv_connector->edid and executing the body of nouveau_connector_set_edid only if nv_connector->edid and edid point to different memory addresses thus preventing nv_connector->edid from being turned into a dangling pointer. The swap-cache address space (swapper_spaces), however, doesn't populate its ->host (struct inode) pointer, thus leading to the crashes in the corner-case aforementioned. commit 19343b5 ended up breaking the assignment of __entry->name and __entry->ino for the wait_on_page_writeback tracepoint -- both dependent on mapping->host carrying a pointer to a valid inode. The assignment of __entry->name was fixed by commit 68f23b89067f ("memcg: fix a crash in wb_workfn when a device disappears"), and this commit fixes the remaining case, for __entry->ino. It could happen if q->rate changes while netem_enqueue() is running, since q->rate is read twice. It turns out netem_change() always lacked proper synchronization. When disabling quotas we are deleting the quota root from the list fs_info->dirty_cowonly_roots without taking the lock that protects it, which is struct btrfs_fs_info::trans_lock. This unsynchronized list manipulation may cause chaos if there's another concurrent manipulation of this list, such as when adding a root to it with ctree.c:add_root_to_dirty_list(). [ Upstream commit 2aaa8a15de73874847d62eb595c6683bface80fd ] With some IPv6 Ext Hdr (RPL, SRv6, etc.), we can send a packet that has the link-local address as src and dst IP and will be forwarded to an external IP in the IPv6 Ext Hdr. Finally, in icmp6_dev(), we dereference skb_rt6_info(skb)->rt6i_idev->dev as the input device is the loopback interface. Then, we have to check if skb_rt6_info(skb)->rt6i_idev is NULL or not to avoid NULL pointer deref for ip6_null_entry. This is because that on load balance if the dst_cpu is not allowed by the task, we'll re-select a new_dst_cpu as a candidate. If no task can be balanced to dst_cpu we'll try to balance the task to the new_dst_cpu instead. In this case when the migration disabled task is not on CPU it only allows to run on its current CPU, load balance will select its current CPU as new_dst_cpu and later triggers the warning above. The new_dst_cpu is chosen from the env->dst_grpmask. Currently it contains CPUs in sched_group_span() and if we have overlapped groups it's possible to run into this case. This patch makes env->dst_grpmask of group_balance_mask() which exclude any CPUs from the busiest group and solve the issue. For balancing in a domain with no overlapped groups the behaviour keeps same as before. zone_watermark_fast was introduced by commit 48ee5f3 ("mm, page_alloc: shortcut watermark checks for order-0 pages"). The commit simply checks if free pages is bigger than watermark without additional calculation such like reducing watermark. It considered free cma pages but it did not consider highatomic reserved. This may incur exhaustion of free pages except high order atomic free pages. Assume that reserved_highatomic pageblock is bigger than watermark min, and there are only few free pages except high order atomic free. Because zone_watermark_fast passes the allocation without considering high order atomic free, normal reclaimable allocation like GFP_HIGHUSER will consume all the free pages. Then finally order-0 atomic allocation may fail on allocation. This means watermark min is not protected against non-atomic allocation. The order-0 atomic allocation with ALLOC_HARDER unwantedly can be failed. Additionally the __GFP_MEMALLOC allocation with ALLOC_NO_WATERMARKS also can be failed. To avoid the problem, zone_watermark_fast should consider highatomic reserve. If the actual size of high atomic free is counted accurately like cma free, we may use it. On this patch just use nr_reserved_highatomic. Additionally introduce __zone_watermark_unusable_free to factor out common parts between zone_watermark_fast and __zone_watermark_ok. [ Upstream commit 8a4a0b2a3eaf75ca8854f856ef29690c12b2f531 ] If we disable quotas while we have a relocation of a metadata block group that has extents belonging to the quota root, we can cause the relocation to fail with -ENOENT. This is because relocation builds backref nodes for extents of the quota root and later needs to walk the backrefs and access the quota root - however if in between a task disables quotas, it results in deleting the quota root from the root tree (with btrfs_del_root(), called from btrfs_quota_disable(). The function registers its global DNS resolver cache as current->cred.thread_keyring and passes the query to request_key_net() -> request_key_tag() -> request_key_and_link(). * Function request_key_and_link() creates a keyring_search_context object. Its match_data.cmp method gets set via a call to type->match_preparse() (resolves to dns_resolver_match_preparse()) to dns_resolver_cmp(). * Function request_key_and_link() continues and invokes search_process_keyrings_rcu() which returns that a given key was not found. The control is then passed to request_key_and_link() -> construct_alloc_key(). * Concurrently to that, a second task similarly makes a DNS query for "abcdef." and its result gets inserted into the DNS resolver cache. * Back on the first task, function construct_alloc_key() first runs __key_link_begin() to determine an assoc_array_edit operation to insert a new key. Index keys in the array are compared exactly as-is, using keyring_compare_object(). The operation finds that "abcdef" is not yet present in the destination keyring. * Function construct_alloc_key() continues and checks if a given key is already present on some keyring by again calling search_process_keyrings_rcu(). This search is done using dns_resolver_cmp() and "abcdef" gets matched with now present key "abcdef.". * The found key is linked on the destination keyring by calling __key_link() and using the previously calculated assoc_array_edit operation. This inserts the "abcdef." key in the array but creates a duplicity because the same index key is already present. Fix the problem by postponing __key_link_begin() in construct_alloc_key() until an actual key which should be linked into the destination keyring is determined.
