Citizen_Mesh

Overview

This endeavor is a novel open-source project aimed at establishing a cost-effective communication network for long-distance, off-grid locations. Through the integration of hardware and software elements, we aim to develop a resilient network that surpasses the constraints of traditional communication methods.

At the core of our efforts is the innovative application of LoRa technology. LoRa, short for Long Range, is a distinctive communication protocol that facilitates communication between devices over much greater distances compared to standard methods like Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This technology proves particularly valuable in areas with limited network infrastructure, providing a dependable option for long-range communication.

The hardware aspect of our project involves a customized adaptation of the "Meshtastic" design, tailored to improve performance and reliability for stable and efficient communication in diverse off-grid scenarios. The flexibility of the Meshtastic design enables us to customize it to suit the specific requirements of our project, enhancing both hardware efficiency and network performance.

Features

  • Long-Range Communication: Our project leverages LoRa technology to enable device communication over several kilometers. The range varies based on environmental conditions and hardware specifications, significantly improving traditional Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections.

Getting Started

  1. Prepare materials
  2. Solder the component on PCB
  3. Update bootloader
  4. Compile Meshtastic
  5. Upload firmware
