Overview

The Opioid Environment Policy Scan provides access to data at multiple spatial scales and multiple years to help characterize the multi-dimensional risk environment impacting opioid use in justice populations across the United States. You can explore and visualize the data on the OEPS Explorer at oeps.healthyregions.org.

Changes in v2

Data

  • Added historical data for a wide range of variables already in OEPS, for 1980, 1990, 2000, and 2010
  • Added historical MOUD access metrics
  • Removed COVID-19 datasets
  • Updates to all relevant metadata files

Structure

  • Reorganized variable themes and constructs to better fit the risk environment framework
  • Consolidated all individual CSVs from v1.0 into single tables per geometry level and year
  • Data export now managed by a new backend Flask app (in healthyregions/oeps)
  • Support export of data package compliant with Frictionless data specs, for better integration into JCOIN data commons

Looking ahead

This will most likely be the last official release in this repository, as the code base for managing OEPS has moved to healthyregions/oeps. As of the v2 release, that repository holds the frontend "explorer" web app (NextJS), as well as a "backend" Flask app that manages all ETL processes, while the raw code and original R scripts are all still in this repository. The next release may the rest of this content migrated to healthyregions/oeps.
