In fig 13.4a of AR5, some models have no thermal expansion over 20th century. Are the differences in thermal expansion due to aerosol forcing or climate sensitivity?
Problem: Huge spread in zostoga spatial pattern among models.
Question: Do we know why? (Is there a water mass answer we should come up with?)
Possible solution (work package 5 - constrain regional projections of sea level rise): Quantify changes in model water masses, apply to observed water masses, relate back to steric sea level.
Go straight from raw ocean obs to water masses (cut out the step in the middle that maps obs to goegraphic coordinates first)
