If you want to disassemble American flag - ok, fine, do what you want. But it would still be nice to respect the laws of other countries and not allow ALL the flags to be dismantled. This is natural incitement of international hatred. I really hate this feature. Democracy is for everyone, not just Americans, in my humble opinion. Respecting other people and and laws of other countries would also be a nice as well. This game is being developed literally by the whole world, not only by developers from America. |
I'm a trans girl from Iran, queer as they come. I'm not American, not white, not cis nor het. This is a single player game and the only one who can disassemble things is the player or the NPCs who the player commands to disassemble things. If you tear your flag up it's entirely on you yourself; are you bleeding out but have nothing to staunch the wound with except your country's flag? Oh my! Are you ripping up the flag?! You should never desecrate your country's flag to survive, because it's obviously more important than your life!! Let it be known that canonically in the C:DDA lore all states have fallen by the game start, sure there's the old guard or whatever but that's just factions now. There are no countries to be patriotic to. Are you playing the game for the game itself or are you drawing parallels to real life issues? If I play Cyberpunk 2077 am I participating in predatory capitalism and corporatism and thereby supporting all the heinous things that come with? No! Off topic but I was in the official C:DDA discord server and there were queer people there too. But no, they're oppressing minority rights, right? And if your problem is with the fact that other people - let me repeat - other people can tear your country's flag in their own games then first of all, why should you care? Second of all, it's not like they're living in an anarchist commune, you can tear their country's flag in your game too. There is literally no reason for you to be offended because of what others do in their own playthroughs and what they roleplay. We're just going to ignore the fact that before TheShadowFerret's PR you could throw flags into the fire as well, right? We should remove fire from C:DDA and make flags out of goddamn netherite then, yeah? Wouldn't wanna "incite international hatred", would we? If I'm the minority I want to say that it'd actually be the most baller thing ever to tear up the trans flag into sheets and then make a makeshift sling out of one, just carrying around a trans flag themed sling would be real cool, imagine the roleplaying opportunities it'd bring! But the only thing you can see is "muh patriotism is hurt" and "muh oppression". I'm not supporting oppression either, I'm literally fighting for my life here in Iran, but there's a huge difference between a single player game and real life. And also, again, you're in no place to judge what others do in their playthroughs. Get over it. |
This is a popular enough game for people to make videos of it and post it online, therefore, these actions with flags can be performed by other people, and demonstratively. The main problem is precisely this possibility. And this possibility could make this game one day banned in my country of residence, something I would like to avoid. |
Your motte and bailey between "I just want to respect the law" and "You're a bigot for PRing this" violates our Code of Conduct, cease @Rokharn. |
Damn that sounds familiar actually. Countries banning things because it goes against their agenda, wonder where I've heard that before? Iran banned YouTube and other websites because they were considered enemies of the Islamic Republic. Also as Ferret pointed out it really doesn't make any sense what you're trying to get at. Countries like mine have laws to execute gay people, so uh, it'd be nice if you just stopped trying to defend it. I also apologize to Ferret for continuing, I just really wanted to exactly point out the flaw. Won't be continuing further!<3 Edit: Wait hold on, isn't murder also illegal in like every country? Or cannibalism? Or looting houses, looting state establishments, or trespassing on private property? I think the game's already illegal in your country! Be careful! /s |
Do you really like to create obviously conflict situations just because someone didn’t have enough fabric curtains in the game? If it were possible to directly create something like shirts or bags (which could, under some prism, be considered a manifestation of patriotism) from the flag, this would be a much more compromise solution. Including if it were possible to create these flags at all. I expressed my concerns about possibility of some country's ban for this game for reason of this kind of features much earlier; other theses came up precisely when my concerns were ignored.
I talked about this before (issue topic 72094), I see no point in repeating myself.
I don't think you're very comfortable using YouTube anymore because of this. Getting even a hypothetical chance of getting a game banned because of an obviously dubious function (tearing an obviously rare item to get a resource that is very doubtfully available everywhere) would be extremely unpleasant. The pros and cons of this solution are very unequal. How many people would actually need this feature? |
This isn't a conflict situation. This is an entirely innocent and frankly lovely little PR that everyone here but you is supportive of. We have consensus on this.
No yeah I'm actually super comfortable using YouTube, I even have a channel on there where I obviously say I'm Iranian. I've also uploaded content when I wasn't busy studying for university. The same goes for everything else, I torrent, I clone github repositories and build them myself, I use VPNs and I'll continue to do whatever the hell I want on any website I want regardless of what my country's lawmakers say because they are absurd. But we'll say I'm just an anomaly and you're a very law-abiding citizen unlike me. Plus, talking of far-reaching situations. Go outside wherever you live and ask 100 people, or 1,000 people, or even 10,000 people. Go ask in your nation's capital even. There will be 0 people who've heard of C:DDA (especially so if you don't live in an English speaking nation) and if there are there will be even less people who know the mechanics well enough for them to object to this. And if they do know of this disassembly recipe they will not adamantly argue against it like you are because they would know better than that. Furthermore, any lawmaker in any country that is even slightly worth a single vote that people give them would focus on more important issues than banning such a niche game that is heavily reliant on TEXT. Nobody would care. You're focusing on whether this recipe is popular or useful enough to be in the game. Lots of other recipes wouldn't fit your popularity criteria either. Maybe the reason people ignore your concerns is because they aren't actual concerns to be had, ever thought about that? |
If people, instead of ridiculing my concerns, would try to argue my position, then this dispute would have ended long ago.
This game quite popular in my country, so not so good point. A decent percentage of the developers of this game are from my country, including. One of the indicators of popularity is that the game has a complete (or nearly complete) translation into my language in the stable version (and is regularly updated in experimental version). Knowing the recklessness of some of our YouTubers, my concerns have reasons. |
Flags aren't going to get special treatment just because some people have an asnine belief that they're somehow special, whether those people are running a government or not. If you have a problem with the game being banned in your country take it up with your idiot government. @Rokharn you are arguing in bad faith here, drop the issue. |
There is a very simple argument to your position. The argument is fiction. This videogame is a work of fiction. The things that happen in a world of fiction are not real. Just to give you an example, in this game you can dismember a human npc, field dress them, eat their innards, skin them, use their pelt for clothing etc... You can do that because it's fiction. It's not real. You'd never do this in real life because it's immoral. How is it that suddenly disassembling a flag is such an insane moral line that we cannot cross in a world of pure fiction? It's understandable that people have a culture for respecting flags. But that's real life. Disassembling a flag in fiction harms no one. You cannot expect works of fiction to respect and uphold every law because they don't need to. Stopping this feature is not being respectful and being law abiding. It's censorship. It's censoring a work of fiction. Does your country do that? So does mine. Protest your country's broken laws, not the fictitious universe of a game. |
I ask you not to insult my country and government, no matter how strange it seems to you. People are different, laws are different - that's normal. Therefore, I ask you not to increase the tension with such a provocation. With this I am ending the conversation, I know now that I will not achieve understanding here. |
Summary

Purpose of change
Closes #72094. Flags, despite being perfectly rectangular, cannot be salvaged into sheets & must be broken all the way down into patches then stitched back up.
Also, sheets disassembled into one greater number of cotton sheets than its mass could contain. 😛
Describe the solution
Every flag variation can be disassembled into 7 sheets & 6 cotton sheets (3200g flag wt. /420g sheet wt. = 7.6 sheets, the .6 giving 6.8 38g cotton sheets).
Sheets disassemble into only 11 cotton sheets.
Describe alternatives you've considered
Disassembling into 84 cotton sheets instead.
