Editor Versions

Version 5.6.x

Version (V. 5.6.x) is the last available version which provides unrestricted features, but will not be further developed. Version 5.6.x updates are provided when one of the resources used is updated, so that valid AutomationML documents can still be edited with this version.

Version 6.0

Since this version, a new license model is implemented that remains its free availability but adds some limitations in the size of AutomationML models. The size limits are generous and the applicability for most educational and didactic purposes is not touched. Users who are members of the AutomationML Association will be unlimited in the model sizes, and additionally be able to make use of additional functions and plug-ins. Members receive the license key automatically through membership via the members area, the license is distributable across the members company.

What does this mean for non-members? As mentioned, the AutomationML Editor version 6 is still available for free for educational and experimental use.

Additionally, the last current version (V. 5.6.x) is still available with unrestricted size and features and is not affected by the changes/new features. But the development of this version is frozen and is no longer supported.

Version 6 is the next generation software and can be used in full for test purposes. If you run into limitations or desires the application of dedicated Plugins, temporary license keys can be requested from the AutomationML office. Your first and last name as well as an official email address of your organization would be important. The duration of these license keys may depend on the planned use case.

Version 6.2

This version introduces a significant change with regard to the use of class and attribute type libraries provided by the AutomationML Association, according to Conventions for the modelling of AutomationML libraries. Such libraries are integrated via external references and are no longer imported into the edited AutomationML document. The editor has new dialogs and views for the integration and use of external libraries. This procedure offers greater protection against unintentional changes and better version control.

The most important improvement in version 6.2 is the distribution of AutomationML libraries via a publicly accessible file server and the integration of the libraries via external references. The editor contains a preconfigured access to the AutomationML NextCloud as a file server. However, it is also possible to use a company-owned or privately used file server as long as it is accessible via the WebDAV/Https network protocol. All configured servers can also be used in parallel.

New functions of the editor support the AutomationML-compliant development and versioning of libraries as well as their publication and signing. The AutomationML provided publication Conventions for the modeling of AutomationML libraries explains the requirements for the conformity of libraries.

The direct integration of libraries, which are also offered on the AutomationML download page, can still be carried out for a transitional period via the menu item Import->From AutomationML. This function must be activated via a button in the main toolbar.
