The text displayed in the open-delta software is stored separately in Java properties files. A brief overview of the file format is:
- Lines starting with a
#
are comments and do not need to be translated. - Blank lines are ignored by the program.
- Lines that do need to be translated have the form: <
key
>=
<value
>` (e.g. DeltaEditor.warningTitle = WARNING - Not for production use). - Lines that specify location of icon files, (e.g. "firstTaxon.Action.icon = icons/icon.png"), accelerator keys (e.g. "saveDirectiveFile.Action.accelerator = control S") or numeric values (e.g. blockingDialogTimer.delay = 500) do not need to be translated.
- The & characters in some of the text identify characters for menu shortcuts.
- The %s characters in some of the text are used for text substitution by the program.
To provide a translation, create a file that contains all of the same keys as the english version (see below) but uses the target language as the value of each key.
As an example, here is a sample from the English and Czech language files:
