This page tracks the known accurate and inaccurate concepts that underlay Red Homestead.

Accurate

  • Terrain is pulled from real Martian terrain from HiRISE data
  • Agriculture
    • The Greenhouse module is based on a real experiment to design a Mars greenhouse
    • The Algae Tank module is based on actual flat panel algae systems
  • Power and Energy
    • RTG power output is based on actual datasheets
    • Solar Panel power output is based on actual technology and observed watts/sq m on Mars
  • Consumables
    • Oxygen, water, and calorie counts are based on actual NASA guidelines

Inaccurate

  • Agriculture
    • Speed is drastically is sped up for gameplay reasons
  • Power and Energy
    • Solar Panels have a much shallower curve over the course of a day, so they do not appear to immediately ramp to maximum capacity
  • Construction
    • Speed is drastically sped up for gameplay reasons
    • Material requirements for modules and buildings are simplified for gameplay reasons
  • Consumables
    • Space suit resource capacity is nerfed for gameplay purposes (Apollo spacesuits would allow up to 8 hours)
