MangaGamer Sprite Modifications (WIP)
This page outlines the different tools and methods used to modify the MangaGamer sprites for this patch.
These steps require different files that will be used in Adobe Photoshop. Zip files of the different tools you'll need are here.

- Photoshop Action Files

- Base sprites for zoom processing.
To replicate the effect of the Lighting Conditions present on the PS3 sprites, approximations had to be made on what filters would work best on the MG sprites to match what was seen on the PS3 sprites. Ironically, using the same filter that was used on the PS3 sprites did not have quite the same effect on the MG sprites.

For this, I used waifu2x-caffe to enlarge the default images at a magnification rate of 1.5. Conversion mode was set to “Magnify only,” the model used was “Photography, Anime,” the Output depth bits setting was “8,” and “Uses TTA mode” was checked. Under processing speed settings, the split size was set to “128,” though I’m uncertain as to whether that has any effect on the image itself. After all the images were processed, I used this batch action in photoshop to increase the canvas width to 2560 px.
For these, I used waifu2x-caffe to enlarge a portion of the default images at a magnification rate of 2.75 in comparison to the normal sprite. To avoid processing more than one zoom action for the sprite, it's a rate of 4.125 for 1440p sprites. Settings were the same as above. For zoom sprites of the same character, it’s important they line up exactly on the canvas, otherwise there will be minor variations in the mid-pixel position of the finished products.
There are a few sprites that have been modified from MangaGamer's original design for various reasons. If future games come out with these sprites, you'll need to use these bases, pasting their facial expressions over their existing ones. This will cause some border thickening, which you can remove by creating a clipping mask.
