Unable to use allowspaces when autocompletemode is true

How can we reproduce this bug?

1. open https://glitch.com/edit/#!/tribute-js
2. autocompletemode and allowspaces are set to true
3. Type New Yo and select New York from the dropdown

What did you expect to happen?
New York should be selected

What happened instead?
York is considered as a seperate word and it becomes New New York
