As a result of the recent work taken on by Aid Information Management Systems to import IATI data directly into aid platforms, the requirement for providing text based IATI content (ie titles, descriptions etc.) in the language of the recipient country has increased in priority. Also, the prescence of recipient country language text has recently been added to the Global Partnership Transparency Indicator - see http://dashboard.iatistandard.org/comprehensiveness_valueadded.html

In addition with the advent of cloud translation services it would be extremely beneficial to provide an Aidstream user with the option at both account and activity level to automatically convert (and add) all relevant text fields in a single/ all activities to the recipient country language

Two suggestions:

  • Might be good to look at tools like the Wordpress Multilingual Plugin which does some workflow stuff (what needs to be translated still? what is updated): https://wpml.org/features/
  • Might be interesting to try an exchange with a translation platform to allow community translation? Let people offer translations that could be re-imported, as is happening for open source software (Pootle, TranslateWiki). Interested organisations could then mobilise their constituency to help improve their information.
