I have tried logging in with steam and it does not work, is the only way to login into this program with a poe account ? or does this app still work?

As a workaround you can get session id from www.pathofexile.com cookies.

Go to pathofexile.com
Login
Press F12
Go to application tab -> cookies

5.Use it in acquisitions "Session ID" tab
