BACKGROUND & OVERVIEW

Come What May is a disaster preparation app that allows users to create unique disaster plans to suit the needs of their household. A user creates a profile for their household, and each profile is connected to a collection of plans. Each plan contains the action steps that are necessary to take for the specific event. Plans can be built from scratch or utilize a template for some of the most common disaster plans.

One of the most exciting features of Come What May are the drill events. A drill can either be programmed by the user using a calendar and time range or be a randomized time set between a range. The idea here is that when a user's drill alert event is fired, a SMS text is sent to the head of household, and the drill begins. From the moment this txt is received a timer begins and will continue until the user is able to guide the household through the drill, and mark the drill as completed. These drill stats will persist and a history of drill times can found attached to the plan's past-drills folder.

Some potential bonus features are:

  • The ability for the user to text back their completion of the drill, and stop the timer.

  • Along with the disaster plans, and Public Alert API is built into the splash where a user can see local updates, and save those they find useful to a folder.

  • Location based emergency service numbers provided in a dropdown menu in the navbar.
