www.youtube.com - design is broken #111840
Comments
How can I upload the video attachment? GitHub stupidly only allows files with certain file extensions - MP4 is not on that list. |
I can't upload the attachment that shows the issue. Please fix your own sotware before using terrible third-party rubbish for bug-tracking. Please fix bugs instead of investing time in new unusable bug-tracking software. |
I could post the screenshot video elsewhere, and provide a link. But doing so would take time, which I don't have. |
@JakeQZ We appreciate your report. I was not able to reproduce the issue using Windows 10, in both full screen or normal view. But I was able to reproduce the issue in Windows 11. Please see: #105116. Also, this might be a different scroll bar, since via webcompat at the moment video files can not be uploaded. This is a known issue: webcompat/webcompat.com#3733. For opening the desired image in a new tab via the "Upload screenshot" section, that is reproducible if the file is dragged outside the designated margins of the area. I have submitted: webcompat/webcompat.com#3734 You can upload your video file here, by attaching it to the comment section (drag and drop). Just make sure the file does not exceed 10 MB. Tested with: Browser / Version: Firefox Release 105.0.1 (64-bit)/ Firefox Nightly 107.0a1 (2022-10-04) (64-bit) @JakeQZ Suggestion: Try clearing cache/data/cookies, disabling add-ons and Ad-blocker (if available) and extensions or use a clean profile, and check again? If there are any changes made to the default settings of the browser (e.g. in [qa_40/2022] |
I'm on Windows 10. An extra scroll bar briefly flickers on and off. Now this issue finally appears on GitHub, I have forgotten where I put the file, so you will have to wait for it - I really can't remember where I saved it. Is this GitHub's or your choice to make reporting issues almost impossible? |
@JakeQZ Are you referring to submitting an issue via webcompat.com, or submitting an issue here directly, like you did for this one? [inv_40/2022] |
I tried to go to Bugzilla, That redirected me to webcompat.com I also tried to go to this GitHub section, which redirected me to webcompat.com. I understand that you don't want spammy bug reports, but, really, what is the point of webcompat.com? Can you please get rid of it if it has no other purpose? |
I could not log this issue on Bugzilla because I was constantly redirected to webcompat, com. Why? |
@JakeQZ Many reports are received and investigated via webcompat.com. We have valued reports coming from there, by solving the addressed issues, and discovering multiple other issues, that brought value to our project. At the moment, the only downside is that video format files can not be uploaded there, only gifs, bmp that are closer to videos. Videos can be uploaded here via comment if the size does not exceed 10 MB. I understand that this is an inconvenience, and our team will look at the issues submitted by me mentioned in my first comments, quote: "I could not log this issue on Bugzilla because I was constantly redirected to webcompat, com. Why?"- was that done by other people involved in the project, or by the page? [inv_40/2022] |
By the page. |
@JakeQZ Can you please provide a screenshot where this is observed? I can not see this reproducing [inv_40/2022] |
No need for a screenshot. Just go to The options are
I do not need technical support. I've no idea what Mozilla Connect means, and don't really care. So the only remaining option is this terrible form here. I came here to report (what I think is) a major issue. But you are giving me a hard time for doing so. I am trying to help - by reporting problems, so they can be fixed.
Really? |
I'm trying to report an issue with Firefox itself. But you don't give me that option. Why? |
@JakeQZ There is an option to report a bug on bugzilla.com: After that, there are multiple options, Firefox included: I've asked for a screenshot because maybe due to the browser used, that option could be missing on your part. I was just trying to eliminate a possible issue(for e.g. stored cache in a browser might interfere with a page). Can you confirm this, please? [inv_40/2022] |
I know that page well. But which of the three options do I select to report a bug? It is far from obvious to me. It needs a rethink IMO. The main issue I'm having is that when I go to Bugzilla it redirects me to this broken GitHub form (from which I have managed to log this issue, but not without difficulty). That needs to be fixed IMO. It is a shitshow as things stand. Please understand, look at it, etc. |
None, you click the giant "New Bug" button that @softvision-raul-bucata even pointed out to you with a big red arrow. |
OK. I missed that. And missed the arrow which wasn't particularly big. May I suggest that what you have here is rather poor UX/UI design. You have seven main options. But only three of them are presented in the list of main options where there is text to describe them. The other four appear as icons only. That is utterly confusing. The icon-only options appear as if they are the 'legal bit' at the bottom of the page that you don't really want anyone using. I would suggest changing that design to save everyone some time. |
I'll forward your feedback to the right people. If you do end up filing a bugzilla bug, please leave a link to it here so we can tag it accordingly, thanks! |
No I cannot. MP4 is not one of the file extensions allowed by GitHub.
Will do. Now I know how to get there. |
Closing as on wrong platform. Will file report on Bugzilla. |

Browser / Version: Firefox 105.0
Operating System: Windows 10
Tested Another Browser: Yes Chrome
Problem type: Design is broken
Description: Items are misaligned
Steps to Reproduce:
Please see the attached screen grab video which shows a scroll bar randomly appearing.
It is probably Google/Youtube's fault, as they are rubbish corporate giants that take no care in UX.
But your bug submission form leaves a hell of a lot to be desried too. Why have you done this? It was so much easier to use bugzilla. Are you trying to dissauade people from filing bug reports? If so, how can you argue that that fits in with your nonprofit perspective of trying to make great software for all. You absolutely can't make great software if you don't accept bug reports from the crowd.
Please also fix this form so that when I try to drag the attachment into it, it actually attaches, instead of navigating away to a
file:
URL.Also please allow video attachments. I am wasting my time here.
