The editor should be able to select the image instead of selecting it in data type config.

Yes, I'm totally with you on that :-)

I've implemented the lookup by alias. I know it's not exactly what's being requested here, but I'll leave this as wontfix for now, since you're probably using v8 by now, and I haven't had a chance to look at what would be required for porting it.
