Show Image From Local File System

I need to show an image from the local file system, I'm using Photino.MainWindow.ShowOpenFolder(); to select a folder, then I need to show all images from the selected folder. As a test I've tried <img src="file://c:\downloads\image1.jpg" /> but the console shows Not allowed to load local resource: for each img tag.

Is there a way to show images from the local file system via an arbitrary folder?

I got this to work using RegisterCustomSchemeHandler().
