It would be nice if one configure this as in Tree Style Tabs. Is this already planned?

I was wondering the same, except for "next child". Ideally this would be some form of modifier, so that "open new tab at the end of the list" is also still available as a shortcut.

Alt+Shift+I creates a new sibling tab of the current tab.
Alt+Shift+O creates a new child tab of the current tab.

I updated the description on AMO in da3fcd7

What about an option to make this default for all new tabs like links being opened from menu, external application, etc?
