Describe the problem

I just downloaded the latest version of Bravo and when I try to connect to a PBI file I get
Error HTTP/500: Failed to fetch.
Version: 1.0.1 (1.0.8381.30060)

I'm assuming its a configuration issue on my side but I don't know where to start? Any ideas on this error?

Bravo version

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Open Bravo thru External Tools tab
  2. Connect to Powerbi Desktop
  3. Bravo attempts to connect
  4. Error HTTP/500: Failed to fetch. is thrown.

Hi @camples, which version of Windows OS are you using?
Could you share here the error message details you get in the diagnostic panel (expand the > Object node in the red box)?

@camples Looks like you previous comment was sent via an email reply. Unfortunately I can't find the error message details probably because pictures and attachments are not included when replying by mail.
Could you please share the error message again by replying here in the GitHub thread? Thanks!

Hi @camples! I am sorry but I cannot open the link you posted in your last comment.
Would you mind sending a screenshot of the error message or just copy and paste the text of the message here ?

Which version of the "WebView2 Runtime" software is installed on your system?

You can get this information from the control panel as shown here:

It would also be helpful to verify that Bravo can connect to the Internet. If you click on one of the highlighted links, does the video open and play correctly ?

@camples We pushed a fix for this issue which is available as a development/internal release.
It would be helpful if you could test this latest version and let us know if the error still occurs.

You can get the latest internal build by changing the update channel from Stable to Dev in the Bravo options panel and then follow the download link. Please let me know the outcome, thanks!

Closing as the fix has been released, but feel free to reopen if this is still an issue with version 1.0.2 or later

Apologies for reviving this old issue but I'm facing the same problem as on this thread. I have copied the details below when trying to attach to desktop. I cannot watch the tutorial videos or connect to PBI service so imagine it is an issue with connection to the internet but can't find anywhere how to resolve this.

Error HTTP/500: Failed to fetch.
Version: 1.0.8 (1.0.8868.14547)

Thank @AdmVar for reporting this. We are reopening the issue to investigate further, as it appears that the problem may not have been fully resolved. If you could provide us with additional information by answering the following questions, it would greatly help us in diagnosing the issue:

  • Does the diagnostics panel contain any messages other than Error HTTP/500 Failed to fetch, or is this the only one shown?
  • When you installed Bravo, which version did you download from release page? Self-contained/Framework-dependent/other?
  • Do you encounter the same error with the portable version? You can download the ZIP file from Self contained - portable link on release page. It does not require installation and can be launched by double-clicking on Bravo.exe after extracting the zip file.
  • Do you see any errors related to the Bravo application in the Windows Event Log?

Apologies for the late reply @albertospelta, please see below:

  • Does the diagnostics panel contain any messages other than Error HTTP/500 Failed to fetch, or is this the only one shown?
Afraid not, just what I put in the previous post.

  • When you installed Bravo, which version did you download from release page? Self-contained/Framework-dependent/other?
Apologies but i'm not 100% sure. I believe it was the Self Contained (Recommended). The install file is named Bravo.1.0.8.x64.msi

  • Do you encounter the same error with the portable version? You can download the ZIP file from Self contained - portable link on release page. It does not require installation and can be launched by double-clicking on Bravo.exe after extracting the zip file.
This has exactly the same behaviour, same errors and can't view any of the tutorials or connect to Power BI Service account

  • Do you see any errors related to the Bravo application in the Windows Event Log?
I'm on a work laptop and do not have access to Event Viewer, I would need my IT team to investigate this.

I have had my IT team check that the firewall isn't blocking access to the web and they have confirmed it isn't, but they are yet to investigate any further if there are any setup requirements they need to perform?

Thank you @AdmVar ! The Bravo user interface relies on an embedded web browser (WebView2, the same as used in PBI Desktop), and it appears that the failed to fetch error is related to communication issues between the Bravo UI and the host components.

Could you please provide the following information:

To facilitate troubleshooting and enable a more detailed analysis of the error, we have released a new internal build that includes the capability to open the browser developer tools (DevTools). Could you please test this by downloading the latest self-contained/portable build from https://bravo.bi/builds or using this direct link: https://bravorelease.blob.core.windows.net/bravo-internal/2024/07/21/20240721.1-1.0.8968.17715/Bravo.1.0.8.x64-portable.zip and launching the application while holding down the SHIFT key? This will open the DevTools in a separate window alongside the application, just as it would in a browser.

Once the application is started, please reproduce the failed to fetch error and then identify any error messages in the Console and Network panels of the DevTools window. Kindly communicate these error messages to us. If you prefer to send them privately, you can email them to [email protected].

Below is an example image of what an error in the DevTools window looks like:

Thank you for your help with testing.
