Steve Repsher

steverep
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Hi, my name is Steve Repsher. I am legally blind and have spent the bulk of my career as an aerodynamics engineer, specializing in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and numerical optimization. How does that help me on GitHub you say? It means I've coded in many different languages, can quickly learn and debug new ones, am a meticulous problem solver, love to automate and streamline, and live inside the world of accessibility (or lack thereof) every day.

Through preach and practice, I am very familiar with the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Accessible Rich Internet Applications (ARIA) specification. I am also a former member of the W3c Accessibility Guidelines Working Group and the Low Vision Task Force, and was heavily involved in the development of new success criteria added in WCAG 2.1.

Your sponsorship will support my mission to support popular open source projects with the detailed issue reports and high quality pull requests that they need to boost their accessibility.

Currently, I am working furiously on the UI for Home Assistant. Not only is it a great project that perfectly suits my own nerdy hobby, but I also believe that home automation in general can open worlds of new accessibility for all types of disabilities.
