Some general questions the guide doesn't answer (Prompt tree, updating, switching between prompts)

I went thru the documentation on the website, and I'm really interested in this project. However I'm a little hesitant due to some unclear things...

I intend to make a file utility tool, which would work for displaying and updating things on the file. Due to how I wish to do this, Im unsure if this tool can manage, or if I'll need to look for something else

• Can I modify selection prompts on the fly? I want to have some of the current directory displayed at the bottom, where you could click (or tab) into, press right arrow on directories to reveal their subentries or just hit enter on an item to switch to that file.
• [Reasking of the question from 2 years ago] Can a selection prompt be displayed with the lines, resembling more of a tree structure?
• How could I do something like -rwxr-xr-- where I could hit a button to toggle each letter singularly, but block the first one?
• Are there dropdown menus? I'd assume you can emulate them using panels, but im not entirely sure...
• Since the API doesn't directly state, how would I listen to specific command inputs?

Im sure some of these could be done with commands or extending certain classes, but before I think myself to oblivion just to figure out some things just arent possible, I'd prefer to ask beforehand. I dont need big examples, just explanantions how things would be posssible are good enough.
