In order to move a steward from the STN to the provisional network, the steward must prove that the automatic update of the indy node software works correctly. This currently requires waiting for a new version of the sovrin package which can take days or weeks. If there is a problem with the automatic update, then the steward must wait again.

The sovrin auto-installer should provide a way to test that the automatic update of indy node software works correctly without waiting for a new version of the sovrin package.
