Work on characterising the RSE role and how it differs from other roles (e.g. RSEs v software engineers/developers) #9
Comments
Part of this relates to #12, how do we define the role of RSE and widen the role of this for people who are doing RSE work but may not identify themselves as such. Would be useful to talk to people who are already doing this characterisation of this. Like Jeremy Cohen and Neil, also the RSE competencies work.

@stefpiatek to follow up in about a week, also worth talking to Jon Cooper & @martintoreilly Sam was at the Bioinformatics event and there's documents on their competencies framework |
Discussed 4/12/23 Need an update on this from @JamieJQuinn. We understand Jamie has asked Kirstie Pringle to assist but is waiting on a response. @martintoreilly comments that there may be overlap here with the working group on RSE role competencies? Dave Horsfall is leading momentum on that. EBI competencies framework |
Link to Slack channel for RSE Competencies toolkit - https://ukrse.slack.com/archives/C05CY0YFWEL (this is what Martin was referring to in terms of working group) |
[Stef] We should try to get a few of our members to attend the competencies toolkit meeting, slack channel here. Next meeting on March 13th 11-12. |
Liaise with competencies toolkit people - so we can close this issue. @quirksahern |
