Unknown Error on trying to setup

When trying to setup I get the input for the host, add the host ip address, leave the port at 502, I know this combination works as it works with the Homeassistant Modbus integration. I do not click the write option. Click the Submit button and get the spinning wheel. Homeassistant then restarts and I get an 'unknown error' in the setup box when HA restarts.
