Project Description

Unbound Science is a creator economy for scientists and inventors, powered by web3 technology. We're building an all-in-one solution for fundraising, collaboration, preservation, and distribution of new technologies.

Problem / Solution

The value held on our platform could be worth billions, both in terms of the data stored and also the value of the funds stored in both the Donation Pools, and the Unbound Science Foundation Treasury. Therefore we need the most secure web3 chain possible. Ethereum smart contracts are woefully insecure in large part to being human readable. Cardano is secure but lacks the necessary interoperability for our application. Secret Network solves our security concerns by encrypting smart contracts and also allowing us to write them using Rust instead of Solidity. Secret Network's interoperability across every major chain makes it the perfect place to build many of our native features.

Detailed product description

Our areas of focus are innovations in Clean Energy, Air/Water/Soil Technology, Pollution/Waste Management, and Quantum. Each one of these sectors will have their own funding pools and sub-communities of scientists, philanthropists, and enthusiasts.

Funding pools are controlled by a voting token, which is issued to users of the platform via epochs, similar to DYDX. Every action on the platform comes at both a cost and a reward, paid in this native token. Scientists may request funding for further development of their inventions. Funding requests are handled via a "game show", as opposed to a grant application.

Finished inventions can be open sourced, or licensed to existing manufacturers with global distribution networks, for fastest replication and impact. Scientists can now receive potentially millions of dollars a year from multiple revenue streams, including licensing, royalties, emergency engineering contracts, and consulting fees, all through our platform. Inventions are displayed through third-party marketplaces that specialize in matching new technologies with large technology manufacturers.

We will be using Molecule's IP-NFT technology to assign rights/ownership of files. To do so, we will import Molecule's technology onto the Secret Network architecture. Actual file storage will be using the encrypted data chain Irys.xyz. Secret Network smart contracts will be running inside Internet Computer Canisters for various web services including interfaces. In addition, we intend on integrating Secret Network's Confidential Compute as a service to scientists within our platform. We are also using Secret Network's privacy technology to build our Funding Pools and Treasury.

Go-to-Market plan

There are six phases in our go to market plan, as detailed below:
Phase 1: Live Events - Attend web3/DeSci, New Tech Showcase, Scientific Meetups, Philanthropic Mixers
Phase 2: Educational Media - Podcast. Interviews with inventors. Game show.
Phase 3: Partnerships - Tap into partner's existing networks, onboard users/new partners. Merge mission-aligned NGOs into our platform.
Phase 4: Hackathons - Continuous cycle of new features/modules. Ongoing security audits from diversified groups.
Phase 5: Sponsored Bounties - Major corporations and/or government entities allocate funds to address local challenges.
Phase 6: Global Ambassadors - Personalized outreach to scientists and institutions. Onboarding local inventors, universities, and manufacturers with a boutique-like experience. Top-tier quality over quantity.

Value capture for Secret Network ecosystem

Unbound Science will showcase Secret Network's capabilities beyond just blockchain, as the perfect solution for many projects building in DeSci, hosting sensitive data, and as a leading multi-chain conduit. Scientist-class users will see the visual branding of Secret Network when selecting where to do their computation. The IP-NFTs assigned to groups of files will also bare the Secret Network label, so there is no confusion on where the NFT lives, and the ability to prove the time it was created, as well as hashes of the elements inside of it.

Development Roadmap

Development Roadmap for Secret Network - Unbound Science
We estimate the project will take 3-6 months to complete the Secret Network integration. Our team will consist of:
2 full-time developers
1 part-time developer
Milestone 1: Smart Contract Setup and Confidentiality Layers (Weeks 0 - 4)
Objective: Build and deploy the initial smart contracts on Secret Network to manage user registration, access controls, and confidential file storage.
Features:
Smart contracts for user roles (Enthusiasts, Scientists, Investors).
Integration of confidential compute to ensure privacy for user interactions and file uploads using Secret Network's encrypted smart contracts.
Basic storage interaction, ensuring that files are privately stored and accessed with encrypted permissions.
Deliverables:
Deployed smart contracts handling role-based access and file confidentiality.
Initial documentation for user interaction and role setup.

Milestone 2: Funding Pools and Interoperability (Weeks 4 - 8)
Objective: Develop confidential funding pools where users (investors or donors) can contribute to scientific projects anonymously.
Features:
Setup and test confidential funding pools using Secret’s encrypted liquidity pools. Investors and donors will be able to contribute funds without revealing their identity.
Interoperability between Secret Network and other blockchains, ensuring seamless fund transfers and communication for investors coming from other networks.
Smart contracts to manage funding allocation and disbursements based on milestones.
Deliverables:
Confidential funding pools operational on the Secret Network testnet.
Complete interoperability layer for cross-chain asset transfers.

Milestone 3: IP-NFTs and Confidential Compute (Weeks 8 - 12)
Objective: Integrate Molecule's IP-NFTs to allow users to create and manage Intellectual Property NFTs using Secret’s confidentiality features.
Features:
Build support for IP-NFTs on Secret Network, ensuring that scientific inventions can be represented as NFTs while keeping sensitive invention details confidential.
Confidential compute in production, allowing scientists to run computations on their data without exposing the underlying data (e.g., peer review or data analysis).
Final testing and deployment on Secret Network mainnet.
Deliverables:
Fully functional IP-NFT feature on Secret Network.
Confidential compute integrated with live datasets.
Final mainnet deployment.

Disbursement Plan
We propose receiving payments in three disbursements:
First disbursement: At the beginning of the grant to initiate development.
Second disbursement: Upon reaching mainnet deployment of smart contracts, confidential funding pools, the successful integration of IP-NFTs, and confidential compute features.
Final disbursement: Proven traction - 100 onboarded active high-quality users (philanthropist, admin, and/or scientist type). $50,000 TVL locked in donation pools.
