By almost having the project concept hardend, scriptycut will soon reach its "Hello World" state and finally output video files :-)
Most of my previous projects died when they got to complicated. I tend to start too complex instead of letting a project grow slowly. Or the fun went away. I just have too many hobbies. Sounds familiar? :-)
This project made little steps so far, but is still fascinating for me! I got some positive feedback already in comments and on reddit.
With all the power of ffmpeg itself, this project will have a lot of functionality and thereby probably raise a lot of issues on using combined ffmpeg filter graphs.
Some latest modifications and conceptual thoughts pushed the project to also be a general ffmpeg wrapper to build the command line arguments.
By studying general video editing apps I realized, the concept of "Non-linear editing" or parts of it are already way to old and too complicated for no reasons today. The next big milestone introducing a GUI for scriptycut could introduce a whole new concept. In short: I would drop the concept of having multiple tracks over the whole project. Transistions should sit right between two clips and not occupy two tracks and make project look like zigzag sawblades. Working in classic video editors is always too much caring about snapping, arranging and a lot of horizontal scrolling IMHO.
Enough for today.
I'd really appreciate any input, questions, discussion, love or anything else to stay motivated!
Thank you!
